Club Adventist
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

Lots of memories from that place. Somewhere I know I have a lot of those threads archived, probably on 5 1/4" floppys, which, of course I can't read on a computer anymore. :-)

The Adventist Forum was this little, seething melting pot of North American Adventism, complete with every shade and flavor of the denomination that you could imagine. Officially it tried very hard to be "the church online" but secretly, well....I can't really talk about the secret goings-on because then it wouldn't be secret anymore. :-)

For me the CompuServe Forum was my first foray into an online community, as I think it was for most everyone there. I had been on bulletin boards before (sorry, archaic reference there--Google it) and done chat, but nothing like this and certainly nothing like this in an Adventist context. It was everything that you might expect to see and hear at a large campmeeting, only online. You had the loyalists and the detractors, the people who spoke even though no one was listening, and the truly damaged, hurting souls that drift through many a congregation. All the hot topics were there--women's ordination, coffee-drinking, wading into lakes on the Sabbath--all the hot, important life-changing stuff.

And yes, I can confirm the rumor that I was actually kicked off of CompuServe for impersonating a woman, a very important woman, but I can't talk about that because I think the Statute of Limitations is still in effect. :-)

I still have one person, Rose Bowen, that I met at the Compuserve Forum as an online buddy..............We turn on IM and leave it on all day. Whenever we have a comment we just sit down and hope that the other is there to answer. If not they will be soon... I did talk with Delwin more than once.........and will see him in church tomorrow, no doubt.

Hey there Gladussee,

Actually tomorrow I am helping Forest Lake Academy web stream their Parents Weekend program to those who can't attend in person. But you can always see me nearly-live, via the sermon archives, at www.forestlakechurch.org. :-)

76665,637. I first joined CompuServe in 1984 with my shiny new 300 baud modem which I later upgraded to 300/1200 baud. In today's terms that would be 1/56th of a dialup connection...hehehe

LOl I was 76417,65 one of the first..

My daughter, the Princess Alisha, fought for, and hard, and ended up starting TFC Teens For Christ, against all odds. Remember that battle?

There were many long, hard fought battles in the Forum that, in hindsight, really seem very silly now. There might be a lesson in there somewhere for the battles that get fought in churches today as well.
